Are business requirements of any value?

Just ran into the weblog of a guy ranting about requirements gathering, talking about how it is just bad and all. For those interested, here is the link: Business Requirements are Bullshit.
Steve takes a lot of words, but the main gist is: simplicity is key.
People really don’t know what they want, and if you have a (probably long and very democratic) business requirements gathering process, you end up with a product that’s basically useless to everyone.
